Gisele Pelicot - Shame must change sides

Maybe you have seen this painting in YouTube, since it reached 1.2 mio people.

Gisele Pelicot had an imense impact on the world. She was dr*gged by her husband, r*ped and offered to other men for almost a decade. She and her family noticed that her health was getting worse and they went to many doctors but no one could help. No one suspected the husband. The family trusted him..until the police found the videos the husband made. 

In all that devastation she must have felt, Gisele decided to use her own case  to spread awareness, to stand with all victims of s*xual abuse and assault, and to explain something that we never really thought of before: “The shame must change sides”. Lets not forget how difficult it must have been to watch every single of the videos her husband made of her and showing it to the public, so that everyone sees what the husband did. She did it as a form to rightly shame her husband. As it should be. 

She is one of the strongest symbols against s*xual violence and we should not forget her after the attention is over.  We need to understand, that victims are NOT the ones to bear the shame. 

Additionally, we need to talk about it. We need to talk about how respect needs to be given to women and girls. Progress is needed.

We need to continue speaking up about this WITHOUT shame!
