This painting is about a woman who accomplished a massive change in a cultural accepted violent act. Jaha Dukureh fights against violent aspects in her culture. She fights against child marriage and female g*nital mutilation (FGM). The girls are fully awake during the FGM procedure and only have complications after that. Jaha enabled a FGM ban in the USA and is talking with African governments to stop this. And now she has an organization which is fighting for the rights of girls and women. This is why I will always hold on hope for change. This story shows how a single person has the power to change things for the better.
