I find it emotionally difficult to paint people who were murdered. But this painting was created as a way to honour Dr. Moumita Debnath, a beautiful soul who endured what no human being should ever have to endure.
She was not just taken from us, she was targeted because of her gender.
And, this is not an isolated tragedy. It is part of a much larger issue: systemic violence against women. Especially in India, and around the world, women have to face such issues.
India is facing a crisis. Women are attacked, shamed, silenced. And not only by men, but also by women who were raised to believe that women are worth less. and that they must endure more. And at the same time, they must stay quiet.
Dr. Moumita Debnath’s story is a heartbreaking reminder that equality is not just a concept but a fight. A fight we must continue until such things do not happen anymore! For her and for every woman who has been told she is "less than".
Let her name not fade and let her not be forgotten.
Speak up. Share her story. Demand better as women. Demand respect.
